Ride from Seattle to Vancouver and Party!
Last weekend Sean and I participated in the RSVP (see title) with about 1300 other bike riders. We were a little anxious about the ride, since it’s supposed to be somewhat more challenging than the STP (Seattle to Portland) which we did last summer. Hillier, less supported, and the risk of not getting back into the country… But we had nothing to fear. It didn’t seem much more strenuous, the weather was a little wet, but cooler than last years’ 90° second day, and unlike the STP, we’d do this ride again.
Some observations on Canada.
- According to Sean, their beers are slightly sweeter. Judging by what we drank, I’d have to agree.
- Seriously different zoning must account for the plethora of large residential high-rises, not just in Vancouver, but surrounding areas. Very impressive and foreign feeling.
- Some slightly different looking cars, notably the city edition golf, and the Mercedes SUV/hatchback thing.
- The only angry (at us) drivers we noticed were in Canada. I was a little surprised, given the extra bike boulevards and bike lanes we saw, which made me assumeĀ bike culture was alive and well in Canada. To be fair, we left Seattle via bike path, so didn’t have many chances to encounter suburban drivers in the US.
- Donair Kebab!
