Vegas, the apartment, what have you

Almost forgot - there are some new pictures on flickr:

  • Vegas - Brice and I took a trip to the Southwest. I didn’t really take my camera out on the strip (although i used my cell phone to take some pictures of the lions at the MGM Grand), but I was able to get some pictures of the Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon
  • The Apartment - I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile. Now that I’ve compiled a bunch of pictures, though, they’re replacing our windows. The nerve!

B, E and I had a tasty dinner at Jamjuree the other night. We heartily recommend the “Thai Special Salad” - it’s not a salad at all, but it is delicious. I’m still surprised how infrequently we eat out (not infrequently per se, but definitely less than in Minneap), especially given the number of good places within easy walking distance of our place. Our time is spent mostly at home and at Victrola (E’s grad-school lifestyle is totally rubbing off on me, and I don’t really mind). But in case “y’all” don’t think there are things to do here, I’ve compiled a nifty Google map of some of our favorite places. Study it, and then come visit.

windows v2.0

Spring is here, and the crocuses and daffodils are in full bloom. Also some trees with pink flowers on them. Our apartment building is having its windows upgraded. Currently it’s sporting some original gothic-looking rusty window frames with many small panes of glass, some cracked, others letting in air. Soon, it will have brand new beige windows (with screens!) The screens should prevent the cats from accidentally falling out of the windows (they lack a healthy sense of fear). The new panes of glass should insulate us, if not from Norman’s repetitive piano playing, at least from the daycare across the street. The only downside is that the windows have faux internal trim. You know the kind I mean. They’re posing as old-school individually-paned windows when in fact the trim is between the full-size panes of glass. It makes it easier to clean but ridiculous to look through. It’s enough to make me consider a job as a design critic.

There is a second upside to the window thing though. The workers make so much noise cutting out the old windows that I’m going to give working remotely-remotely a shot for part of this week. wish me luck!
