slow down, team ellsenheimer

dammit. that girl is beating me with her frequent and substantive posts. i hope she doesn’t steal all my web traffic.

i’ve been farting all evening, perhaps due to the bratwurst dinner we ate at IKEA. One feels a bit silly, passing up brew pub after brew pub only to eat dinner at IKEA. One also doesn’t relish the thought of admitting to choosing IKEA over craigslist for an emergency dresser purchase. although i’m starting to freely admit, i am an IKEA fan. all that furniture fits in small, square, rectangular boxes, which means most of it is small, square, and rectangular, which is exactly the way i like my furniture to look. now if only IKEA would design houses and apartment complexes.

so we bought some emergency items: a dresser for E (turns out we have more clothes than we thought) a bookshelf (totally not an emergency, but it should liven (!) up the living room) a bedside table (really, really not an emergency, but it looked really, really nice in the store), a toilet brush (hopefully not an emergency, but who can complain with $1?) and a shoe rack (possibly an emergency. there are a lot of shoes in the closet, eagerly awaiting some Scandinavian organization.)

i followed ohdogg’s ingenious how-to-let-Comcast-install-interweb-without-frying-your-computer technique with fantastic results — i’m on the web, y’all, no extra software necessary! Just follow these two simple steps:

  1. Close the door to your ‘home office’, with the 3 computers sitting there conspicuously, before Comcast shows up.
  2. make sure the ‘only computer in the house’ is not running windows, or even osX. the tech who came wasn’t quite sure why he couldn’t find the start button, but i the ip address seemed to be all he was after.

lo and behold, intarwebula lives!

in other news: people in seattle seem to have their security in order. of the 10 access points i detected this morning, only one of them didn’t have some form of encryption enabled. and that one seemed to lose its default route after ~10am this morning. wonder if the owner unplugged their uplink on the way out the door…
