thought i broke a spoke this morning on my 2nd-to-last (it proved to be my last) curb-hop on the way into the parking lot at work. there was a nice big noise and my wheel stopped turning easily, rubbing against a chain stay. turns out i jostled my rear wheel out of dropout-alignment. all was not lost, however. luckily the production department let me borrow some their wrenches. and now i know what size i need for spur-of-the-moment repairs.
edgy eft is (as of today) running on my machine. let’s hope it doesn’t freeze the way dapper drake did. i’m armed with lots of potential fixes to avoid purchasing a new system.
- comment out dri in xorg.conf (done; seems to help/fingers crossed)
- comment some other stuff out in xorg.conf
- try a ps2->usb adapter for mouse and/or keyboard
- pass some options to the kernel on startup
- purchase a new machine (kevin would be happy)
mom: you’ll be pleased (horrified) to know i have a new credit card. it’s not because my credit limit on the other one is too low. or because i’m in debt. it’s because i shop too much at REI (biking gear — you know how it is), and i figured with 1% of my purchases going to my ‘dividend’, i could probably contribute more to charity than that working assets card was going to anyway. also usbank is a secure computing customer (really bad reason). also also, i was pleased to see the following notice on the back of their envelopes: “This envelope is fully recyclable, including the window.”
this past weekend i made the trek to IKEA twice (talk about defending our country from terrorism). i left with a stainless steel spice rack, some pillows, cases, and a kitchen utensil organizer. team ellsenheimer needed some moral support (at least that’s how i justify the second trip), and now her kitchen looks pretty sexy. it’s got new galvanized shelves and some under-the-cabinet lighting.
