new tactics needed
so far i haven’t been a very good father to some of the avocadae, so i’m going to try taking them into work. they don’t seem to mind flourescent lights and it’s a lot easier to remember to water them there than at home. perhaps that’s because i spend much of my day tidying up my desk, wishing i could find better websites to read, filling up my nalgene obsessively and lamenting the fact that i don’t just sit down and read all the o’reilly books on my desk cover to cover.
what ohdogg suggested, and i’d like to try, is taking multiple pictures of my avocado seedlings over the course of a month. they really do shoot up pretty quickly and i think there’d be some pretty nice ones, especially at the beginning. i’ll need to bring in the small tripod, get a nice backdrop, manufacture some dramatic lighting (i am photographing nudes) mark the spot on my desk to avoid camera-positioning mishaps, take some white-balance readings, and get to work. may want to charge the batteries and do the focusing manually.
spring’s finally here, which is probably why i’m thinking about avocados so much. i’ve also washed my car, spent my REI dividend (take that, terrorism! how does over $1000 of sexy outdoor gear purchases in a year feel?), gotten my hair cut, taken a few morning and weekend rides with kevin and team bumblebee, done some spring cleaning and window-shade installation with the st. paul siren and even bought a new pair of jeans. things are really looking up for the better ;).
the other night, special K and i wrote some schweet scripts to look up phone numbers on the goowebulatorium(nator) for a good cause. it’s nice to see that our specialties have matured in slightly different directions. we might think more compatibly now than when we were back in carletonia. K to seems to have read the man page on awk (oh baby)… i was able to whip out some nice regular expressions, and we both tackled perl with an easy confidence. or was that just the bud light™ doing the work for us?
