i almost titled this post ‘post i wrote so that i could give dave hendler shit about not having posted since october 17th’

but now he’s posted again. which makes me even happier than that title would have.

i’m back from the frozen tundra. one of the canadians asked me if i liked their summer. what a wonderful sense of humor those easygoing bilinguals have.

the <french>apartmont</french>is becoming even more livable. ohdogg and kaiserbun have been to ikea™ enough times recently to give the place a real scandinavian feel. we’ve now got a clock for our time and a light for our plants. i’m working on (watering) a brigade of avocodae with whom i’ll declare war on work’s mauve surroundings. the part of my plan i’m most pleased with is putting multiple seeds in a single pot. it’s well known that the only thing better than one avocado tree is three or four shooting up in close proximity.

in celebration of the fact that i wasn’t too stupid to plug the optical out from my dvd player into the optical in on my receiver, my two roomates and i listened to ‘fanfare for the common man’. i think my speakers are going to get along with my new receiver just fine. i really ought to avoid getting carried away with the volume knob when the neighbors are around, and it might be a good idea to hold off on the subwoofer plans. these little guys are powerful enough, thanks.

sheepish grin

at least i wasn’t the only one under the impression that ‘house of commons’ meant ‘great britain’. turns out i’ll be spending some time in ottawa instead of london. it is better to find out where i’m going before i get there.

took my longest vacation since starting work here in minnesota. 2 weeks of playing clarinet, transplanting christmas cacti, shovelling the driveway, seeing friends, renting movies, scratching kyleigh’s stomach, eating sauerbraten, framing prints, fixing computers and chauffeuring my family.

— skip to the present —

ottawa is a nice place, especially when you don’t forget the following:
contact lens solution, contact lens case, deodorant, shaving cream, your camera’s flash card and your wifi card. looks like we’re dealing with a personal hygene/superfluous technology issue here.

in other news, reading the economist is one of my favorite things to do on an airplane. more interesting than sleeping, more gratifying than skymall and easier to fold over than your average airline-affiliated publication.
