power lines

they’ve really got to go. i’m going to start a club for people who want never to have to look at them. the movement could be called ‘power lines underground’ … which, i’m pretty sure, is where they should have been this whole time.

autumn is no longer around the corner. it’s right here. watch out, or you’ll step on one of its toes. i smelled wood smoke while walking to my car tonight. for something that i associate with the depths of winter, i’d say i took it pretty well. i’m glad there’s someone in the neighborhood with a wood stove.

if you’re ever in uptown looking for a tasty beverage, head over to pandora’s cup and get a banana raspberry smoothie. then take 94 east to 35W north and visit me at secure, because i’ll be here all night.

hello world, wp style

it’s come to my attention that all of my friends now use wordpress, so i thought i’d hop on the bandwagon too.

right now there’s going to be upheaval with several questions:

• how slick is this cms anyway? do i like typing in entries in a webpage or would i rather do them in vim?
• do i still want to use my own frontend or should i adapt what wordpress gives me?
• should i use this (or something similar) for the photo albums? It’d be really nice to see photos taken at the time of these entries
• should i leave all the old posts up unabridged/searchable/displayed by month?

update: all old posts are now up. everything, in fact, going back to July 5, 2001. let me know if there are links that don’t work that you wish did.

strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard

there’s something utterly satisfying about listening to journey, polishing up the old unix commands and recollecting the cool detachment (unshakable calm determination!) with which you pulled the stitches from your finger the night before.

coming up this month is a nice stretch of rotation (2nd shift, 3rd shift, etc.) and then a much-anticipated trip to the west coast. my travelling companion will once again be sean p. (first canada, then europe, now euortle (porgeattle?) (seaortene?) )

i’m starting to make a very silly little list:

1. my cell phone stopped working. no one could hear my pleasant voice. and then, as mysteriously as it broke, it righted itself.
2. the shitty fan i bought from target lost one of its blades. now it’s unbalanced and lethal.
3. my windshield wipers have ground to a halt.
4. my firewall seems to be having difficulty functioning properly.

and another one:

• run a command again with a quick string replacement: ^string1^string2^
• run a new command on the last argument of your previous one: newcmd !$
• a new command with all the same arguments: newcmd !*
• sort based on the 5th field in a line: |sort -k5
• do reverse search on previous commands: CTRL-r
