the adventure continues
july 25. berlin epoc over–today i reunited with sean in der nähe von köln (who has been to denmark and sweden). got to ride on the ICE for the first time. pretty nice how they show you the speed on an lcd at the front of the cabin. cruising speed seemed to be 250 km/h, with a max of 280. tour de france fever all over germany. we’ll be watching the time trials tomorrow. ah lance. what a fighter.
july 17, 1:17 am. figured out who sings favorite song: cam’ron - oh boy. checkpoint charlie, two thrift shops and the reichstag seen today. berlin is a large city. hard to find your way around.
july 15th. this is hilarious. i’m sitting in berlin, and i’ve just coaxed the computers (running some nice locked-down linux distro) into going to websites they probably were not intended to visit, such as dysphemism.net. lets just say there’s nothing quite as powerful as tabs in mozilla, copying and pasting via the middle mouse button in x windows, and a general familiarity with linux desktop systems. not sure what window manager this baby is running, but it’s certainly not blackbox. to bad i can’t pop open a terminal.
july 10-15 spent in prague. i may have enjoyed a couple of shots of absynth as well. the boathouse hostel where we stayed felt like summer camp, and between breakfast served until 12 and tour de france on tv, we couldn’t have been more relaxed.
july 8 or 9, we move to vienna. egon schiele looks a lot better in real life than in reproductions. also took a day trip to budapest, where i proudly ate beef gulash twice in one day. also got to see remnants of the soviet influenced past in the national gallery architecture, confirmed by a designer on the train back to vienna; the steel factory that his company is employing to manufacture their remote-controlled golf-caddy used to employ 20,000 instead of the current thousand.
july 6, possibly our last full day in munich. we’ve been sleeping in a big tent with what looks like a bunch of homeless refugees. days have been filled with beergarten, mercedes flamboyant openings and bmw museums. nights spent around campfire. going to eat sptzle tonight.
july 2, our last night in reggio e., italy. a delicious dinner with cheese and spinach ravioli-esque delights, more cheese afterwards, and american apple pie to top it off. yesterday, firenze glimpsed through a veil of thousands of tourists. i wonder how many pictures i am in. tomorrow, if all goes according to plan, we will be sleeping in a circus tent. no reservations necessary.
june 21, greetings from barcelona. here are our gorgeous haircuts, courtesy of Giorgio K. check out the new photos on the albums page… it may have taken several cans of ‘fink brau’ to have been persuaded to do someting so drastic. learned how to make risotto, rediscover the importance of the potato in cooking, and realize everyone was right to study spanish.
june 15/16th, graduation now over, it’s time to hop on the plane to london, we’re i (luckily) meet sean at baggage claim. spend some days in london with beth, a friend of sean’s working for an engineering firm making sure the millennium bridge doesn’t wobble, among other things.
