• If sore throat occurs with two of these three signs of strep throat
• Fever of 101° or higher (may be lower in adults)
• White or yellow coating on the tonsils
• Swollen glands in the neck
• If sore throat or tonsillitis develops after exposure to strep.
• If there are repeated bouts of tonsillitis, especially more than four or five per year.
• If a child has persistent mouth breathing, drooling, snoring, or very nasal or muffled voice.
